5K courses are all the same. The only different course is the College Men’s 8K course on Friday night.

Parking

One of the most challenging parts of the Eye Opener is parking. It is very important that you get there early and be patient. Please be courteous and respectful to the volunteers trying to help you park.

We are expecting 110+ teams. Please plan to arrive early, as there are only two entrances into the Roger Milliken Center. Buses and vans must enter from Business I-85. Other vehicles may enter from either the Business I-85 entrance or the Boiling Springs Highway/SC Highway 9 entrance.

Eye Opener

History

Our History

The first Eye Opener was contested on September 4, 1984 on the campus of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind. Five teams with 54 contestants (45 boys/9 girls) participated in the inaugural event – that was won by SCSDB. For 16 years the Eye Opener was contested on the day after Labor Day. In 2000, due to size restrictions of the SCSDB campus, it became necessary to move the Eye Opener venue to the campus of the Roger Milliken Center. Since this change of venue, the Eye Opener has been contested on Saturday. In 2002 the collegiate division was added to the menu of events. In the 33 editions of the Eye Opener there have been 38,979 finishers – who have raced a total of 125,204 miles.
